Solidarity for Her Education

and Empowerment

Empowering rural adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania to access education, defend their rights, and live with dignity and equality.

Who We Are

Empowering the whole rural adolescent girl

As a girl-centered and community-driven initiative, SHEEO restores hope and carries the voices of marginalized and underrepresented adolescent girls in rural Tanzania by empowering and supporting them through education, life and practical skills development, and economic opportunities that build self-reliance, resilience, and capacity to transform their communities.

The Problems We Address

Too many girls face barriers that prevent them from completing their education. Financial pressures, family circumstances and unequal access to quality learning can lead girls to leave school early, limiting their opportunities later in life.

Early pregnancy and child marriage can dramatically affect a girl’s education, health and future choices. Limited access to reliable sexual and reproductive health information and services makes it harder for girls to make informed decisions about their bodies and their futures.

For many young women, completing school does not automatically lead to economic independence. Limited access to skills, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities can make it difficult to build a stable and sustainable livelihood.

Girls and young women continue to face expectations and practices that can restrict their choices, safety and opportunities. Weak protection systems can make those who experience discrimination, violence or exploitation even more vulnerable.

Girls and young women are often underrepresented in the decisions that affect their lives and communities. Without opportunities to develop confidence, leadership skills and a strong sense of agency, their ideas and perspectives can easily go unheard.
